MARCH, 21 – INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DOWN SYNDROME

Down syndrome is one of the most common forms of genetic pathologies associated with the presence of an extra chromosome in human cells. The probability of having a child with Down syndrome is 1 in 600 newborns and does not depend on the race, place of residence, lifestyle or social status of the parents. Therefore, supporting people with this syndrome, as well as spreading information and destroying stereotypes about it, is a task that is relevant for the whole world.

In addition to the characteristic appearance, Down syndrome is also associated with multiple pathologies of internal organs. Up to 75% of people with Down syndrome suffer from hearing impairment, 45% have congenital heart defects. Often, among the accompanying diagnoses are pathologies of vision, the nervous system, the gastrointestinal tract, and the thyroid gland. Early detection of these disorders and timely treatment make it possible to significantly improve the prospects for future development, education and social adaptation of such children, as well as forecasts for health and life expectancy.

Charity Exchange "DobroDiy" provides charitable assistance in the treatment of concomitant diagnoses in wards with Down syndrome. Components of assistance - payment for rehabilitation courses, purchase of supportive medications, payment for examinations. But at the same time, we try to draw attention to the problem of overcoming stereotypes in the perception of "sunny people". We believe that people with the syndrome should not be an "unusual phenomenon", becoming a full member of society. These children need our help, love, understanding and mutual respect.
