24 OCTOBER IS THE WORLD POLIO DAY. A FEW FACTS ABOUT THE REALITY OF THE THREAT AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IMMUNISATION.

Polio is not just a medical term from the pages of a textbook. Unlike many terrible diseases of the past that humanity has overcome, this difficult diagnosis unfortunately still exists in the modern world.

It is a real threat that can change a child's life forever and cause irreversible damage to their health. Paralysis, disability, or even death are likely consequences of the poliovirus, for which there is still no cure. Vaccination is the only way to protect children.

Why is it important? Children under the age of 5 are the most vulnerable group of people, especially if they have not received the necessary vaccinations in time. Without vaccination, their bodies are defenseless against this dangerous virus.

Why does vaccination work? Thanks to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, launched by the WHO in 1988, the number of new polio cases has fallen by 99%. The world has not yet completely eradicated the disease, but the results are impressive: from 350,000 cases annually in 125 countries to just 33 cases in 2018!

Society may doubt it, but the statistics speak for themselves. Despite myths and conflicting opinions, vaccination saves lives. No one can predict who will be affected by polio. That is why it is so important to support immunization so that our children can have a future free from disability and fear of this disease.

Charity Exchange "DobroDiy" adheres to the principles of evidence-based medicine and preventive measures. We support vaccination as the most effective way to fight polio and other dangerous diseases! Every child can be protected. Vaccination is not a choice, it is a responsibility!
