29 NOVEMBER IS WORLD INFORMATION DAY
HE WHO OWNS THE INFORMATION, OWNS THE WORLD!
In the reality of the modern world, anyone can become a source of news under certain circumstances. We live in an age where the main product is information. But this also has a negative side: truth and falsehood coexist in the same territory.
This is especially noticeable now, during a full-scale Russian military invasion, when the enemy is actively using disinformation for propaganda purposes, with the aim of sowing chaos and discord in Ukraine.
How can misinformation affect the user?
- It creates a panicky mood when the main message is "everything is gone".
- It makes you question the truth when they say "There is no evidence!"
- Influences your emotions to distract you from the main point: "This is too scary not to believe!
Don't be fooled! Here are 5 basic techniques you can rely on to separate the truth from the fakes:
- Ask: Who is the author of the message?
- Is it an official source, a journalist, or someone from Telegram without a signature?
- If it's an "insider" or an "acquaintance of a friend" - be careful.
- Look for confirmation and evidence.
- Does the information also appear in other independent sources?
- If the news is important, several authoritative publications will write about it at the same time.
- Check the pictures and videos.
- Pictures are easy to fake. Use Google Images or TinEye to find the source.
- Check the dates.
- Old news can often be presented as "breaking news". Look at the time of publication.
- Ask yourself: why am I being shown this?
- If the news only causes fear, hatred, outrage, or other negative emotions, it may be manipulation.
What to do if you have doubts about the authenticity of the information?
- Use official sources: government portals, official pages of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on social networks, and verified news sites.
- Don't share information that you cannot verify.
Information is your weapon. But only if it is real. Let's make the world around us fairer, stronger, and kinder. Likes, reposts, and a bit of critical thinking - and you are already in a position to influence the situation. Together we will defeat not only the enemy but also their information attacks!
