WORLD MELANOMA DAY: FACTS AND WARNINGS ABOUT LIGHT THAT CAN BURN

The vast majority of people around the world love the sun. It warms us, makes us feel good, and is associated with joy and happiness. However, sunlight can also be treacherous. Excessive ultraviolet radiation is a significant cause of melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer.

All the ultraviolet rays a person is exposed to throughout their life accumulate in their DNA. The most risky period is childhood up to the age of 19. Any sunburn experienced during this time, especially early childhood, significantly increases the risk of developing melanoma in adulthood!

12 May is World Melanoma Day. This initiative aims to remind everyone that they can save a life by examining their skin more closely. Melanoma can resemble a normal mole, but it grows, darkens, and changes shape and color. It doesn't hurt; it's silent—until it's too late.

Prevention is always easier and more effective than a cure. Sunburn and its dangerous consequences can and should be prevented! We've gathered expert advice that can save you and your children.

Here are a few things and simple actions you should be aware of today:

  1. Check your moles, especially those that have changed.
  2. Make an appointment for yourself or your child to see a dermatologist.
  3. Remember to wear sunscreen, even in the city and when it's cloudy.
  4. Don't forget a hat and sunglasses for both you and your child.
  5. Avoid sun exposure during lunchtime (from 11:00 to 16:00).
  6. Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50 on all exposed body areas, and remember to reapply every 2 hours.
  7. Share this post; it may save someone's health.

At the DobroDiy charity exchange, we have stories of how early diagnosis has given even the youngest a chance at life. Cancer doesn't ask how old you are, but awareness is the power that can stop it.

The sun is light, but let it never cast a shadow on your health. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
