10 September — World Suicide Prevention Day

According to current WHO data, a suicide occurs every 40 seconds worldwide. This results in about 727,000 deaths annually, highlighting the alarming rise of this tragic issue. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among 15- to 30-year-olds. Similar statistics in Ukraine show that, unfortunately, the number of crisis states and suicide attempts has increased since the start of the full-scale war.

Constant stress, the loss of loved ones, uncertainty about the future, financial struggles, and war trauma have pushed thousands of people to the edge. At the Charity Exchange "DobroDiy," we constantly see how vulnerable families with seriously ill children are. Exhausted from years of fighting, they often need both financial and emotional support.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, aimed at raising awareness and reminding us that some people around us may need help. Talking about suicidal thoughts is important. It is not a "forbidden and uncomfortable topic," but a life-or-death issue. After all, recognizing the problem is the first step to overcoming it.

Remember that even in the toughest situations, it’s the small things that can make a difference:

  • A sincere "I'm here" can provide support.
  • A conversation that alleviates the feeling of loneliness.
  • Help from professionals you’re not ashamed to seek out.
  • Support from loved ones, even in small gestures, is invaluable.

There are free hotlines in Ukraine that you can call for help during a crisis. We have listed the main contacts below for your convenience:
