Seventeen-year-old Polina, who has Down syndrome, stopped speaking due to stress and suffered an ischemic stroke. Help the girl recover!
Polina Machikhina is 17 years old and lives with Down syndrome and various associated health issues. She is a cheerful, sincere, and open-minded girl who enjoys drawing, cooking, and assisting her mother with household chores. However, the active phase of the war in Ukraine, marked by constant danger and rocket attacks, inflicted severe emotional stress on Polina. She stopped speaking and responding entirely.
Her mother was in total despair and sought help from many doctors and psychologists. All the efforts and resources spent on Polina's development turned out to be in vain — she had regressed. However, the situation was resolved through a timely visit to a neuropsychologist, comprehensive diagnostics, and a planned rehabilitation program, which began to yield small but positive results.
However, the joy of gradual, confident steps toward recovery was unexpectedly interrupted. Polina suffered an ischemic stroke. Initially, the symptoms were misdiagnosed as inflammation of the facial nerve at the hospital, so treatment was not started promptly. Following the stroke, Polina will need to relearn everything, which is why her family is appealing to her supporters for help. Support Polina on her path to recovery and rehabilitation!
