Brothers Roma and Kostya have genetic abnormalities and developmental features. They require corrective treatments and rehabilitation!
Roman and Kostyantyn Chikarenko have had developmental features since birth, caused by genetic mutations. Both teenagers face daily challenges and struggle to acquire skills and socialize while learning new things.
Fourteen-year-old Roma has Down's syndrome. He is currently in Year 8 and is exploring the world around him alongside his peers. He is a cheerful, kind, and sensitive boy. He is a great support to his mother and younger brother.
He performs in an inclusive theatre group, attends an aikido club, and is working to master every aspect of life. He wants to learn how to ride a bike, but struggles with coordination and balance, so he requires regular, intensive rehabilitation.
Kostyantyn is 11 years old. He is the only child in Ukraine with the rare condition spinocerebellar ataxia type 29. This condition affects the part of the brain responsible for motor and cognitive functions, as well as learning and adaptive abilities.
Kostyantyn cannot speak. He can walk short distances with a walker and is currently learning to walk with crutches. This will give him greater freedom of movement. To achieve this, he needs to work systematically with specialists.
