en-year-old Arina, who has cerebral palsy, dreams more than ever of walking unaided. Help her attend a rehabilitation course!
Arina Mykytyuk was born prematurely at 30 weeks, weighing only 1,650 g. For the first ten days of her life, she was unable to breathe independently and was connected to a ventilator. Over the next two months, she gained weight and received costly therapy to dissolve haematomas on her head and promote blood formation. Taking these medications helped avoid the need for a blood transfusion.
Arina's development was generally delayed. She learned to roll over, sit up, crawl, pick up toys, and chew food later than her peers. When she was 3 years old, doctors confirmed her final diagnoses of cerebral palsy and spastic tetraparesis of the arms and legs. Since then, Arina has had to struggle daily with spasticity in her limbs, which restricts movement and prevents her from performing certain actions normally.
Now aged 10, Arina is undergoing ongoing rehabilitation and working hard to improve her mobility: she does exercise therapy and swimming, regularly visits an occupational therapist, and attends massage therapy sessions. In 2021 and 2024, she underwent surgery to release spastically shortened muscles. Thanks to these procedures, Arina experiences less spasticity in her limbs. Another rehabilitation course is planned for December at the 'Space of a Healthy Child' centre.
Arina is currently in third grade at an inclusive school. She is sincere, active, and sociable. She loves to draw and do crafts. With the right support, Arina can walk independently, live a fulfilling life, and enjoy a normal childhood. However, paying for all her medical services and treatments will be a financial strain on the family. Please help Arina access rehabilitation!
