Little Ksenia Doroshenko, at age 3, has endured so many difficult trials that not every adult can survive. The girl has suffered from a rare genetic disease, Dravet syndrome, since early childhood. This is a severe form of drug-resistant epilepsy characterized by prolonged, life-threatening convulsive seizures.
Ksenia's first seizure occurred when she was only 8 months old. Since then, the child's life and her family's have changed forever. Ksenia has spent most of her life in hospitals and intensive care units. The girl often couldn’t come out of a seizure on her own, and many times only emergency doctors managed to save her life.
Due to the large number of severe seizures, Ksenia lost many skills. She stopped talking, so she now needs constant classes with specialists and regular rehabilitation to relearn basic actions. Despite all the trials, Ksenia is very bright and smiling. She loves to dance, loves cats, willingly plays with musical toys, and engages with her surroundings.
Unfortunately, basic drug therapy, which mainly consists of anticonvulsants, does not always yield the desired results, so treatment requires individualized drug selection and ongoing monitoring. Today, Ksenia takes three types of anticonvulsants every day. One of them is not registered in Ukraine, so it cannot be purchased in Ukrainian pharmacies.
Due to the disease’s pharmacoresistance, available drug analogs don’t help Ksenia. However, the cost of effective medications is a significant financial burden for the family. Therefore, her mom is appealing to all concerned for support: Ksenia urgently needs vital anticonvulsant medications and emergency drugs to stop seizures!
