7-YEAR-OLD SEVASTIAN WITH DOWN’S SYNDROME UNDERGOES SERIOUS HEART SURGERY AND EXPERIENCES GAIT AND POSTURE DIFFICULTIES. SUPPORT THE BOY!
Sevastian Karas was born with serious diagnoses – Down syndrome and a heart defect. During his birth, the boy suffered from cerebral hypoxia and could not breathe on his own. For the first 9 days of his life, the baby was in intensive care on a ventilator. Later, in the neonatal pathology department, Seva began to gradually gain weight, and the parents planned his son’s further rehabilitation.
A month later, Sevastian began his first dynamic gymnastics classes with a rehabilitation specialist. The top priority was preparing the child for heart surgery in 6 months. Meanwhile, Seva slept almost constantly, ate poorly, and could not hold his head up or turn over. At 7 months old, the boy underwent open-heart surgery and began a new life. The baby's condition improved significantly, but development remained slow.
At 1.7 years old, Seva took his first independent steps, and his parents immediately noticed difficulties with walking and posture. Later, a neurologist diagnosed him with right-sided hemiplegia and paresis of the lower limb. Since age 2, Sevastian has been in ongoing rehabilitation. Now the boy needs regular exercise classes, sensory integration, and classes with a speech therapist and a defectologist to begin speaking.
Unfortunately, Seva has not yet developed phrasal speech and pronounces only individual words. However, thanks to comprehensive classes, the boy is becoming stronger and more inquisitive. His gait is gradually becoming less unsteady, and his behavior is improving. Please support Sevastian and his family. Help a boy with a difficult fate enter another rehabilitation course!
