2-YEAR-OLD SASHA WITH CP, EPILEPSY, AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF CNS DISEASES IS TRYING TO DEVELOP. HELP THE CHILD RECEIVE REHABILITATION!
Oleksandr Shepel had a confirmed diagnosis of intestinal atresia even before birth. On the first day of life, the child underwent complex surgery, during which 21 cm of Sashko's small intestine was removed. After the surgery, the boy stayed with his mother in the surgical unit, but instead of recovering, his condition gradually worsened.
Sasha spent the first 4.5 months of his life in the walls of the Okhmatdyt hospital, never having been home. During this time, he was admitted to the intensive care unit three times. In 1 month, Sasha developed severe herpetic meningoencephalitis and fell into a coma, which he remained in for about a month. He also suffered from sepsis and a severe fungal infection.
The family and doctors relentlessly fought for his life, and Sasha managed to survive. Unfortunately, the brain damage he suffered had lasting consequences. The boy was diagnosed with CP, dyskinetic tetraparesis. It is difficult for him to control his body and movements, to chew, and to master skills that develop naturally in other children.
Today, the main focus of Sashko's struggle is rehabilitation. Physical therapy, exercises, massages, occupational therapy, speech therapy sessions, and swimming help him develop and become more independent. Each of his small successes is a huge victory. And the family is doing everything possible to ensure his story does not stop at the diagnosis.
Once, Sashko had to fight for his life and survived. Now he should get a chance to learn to control his body as much as possible, learn new skills, and be as independent as possible in the future. Support Sasha! Help him get into rehabilitation!
