THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CARE AND SUPPORT: A FEW WORDS ON THE UNDERAPPRECIATED NOBILITY AND DEDICATION OF CARERS

On 29 October, the world celebrates the International Day of Care and Support. In addition to being fundamental to normal community life, social assistance is something millions of people cannot do without. However, the valuable work of social workers often goes unnoticed and undervalued.

This day emphasises the need to recognise the work of caregivers as a fundamental part of the labour process. In Ukraine, unfortunately, workers in this field often face a lack of recognition and unfair wages. This is happening against the backdrop of increasing statistics showing that the number of people who need ongoing care or have limited self-care capabilities is growing steadily.

At the Charity Exchange “DobroDiy”, we share the stories of people who have become caregivers for children with disabilities every day. Most often, they are parents or relatives of our young wards. These individuals make tremendous efforts to improve the quality of life for children with serious diagnoses, acting as social workers, medical staff, psychologists and mentors all in one.

These manifestations of care and support are often no less important than professional medical services or rehabilitation and recovery classes with specialists. Today, we are inviting you to support families of young Ukrainians facing challenging circumstances who are trying to cope with their children's illnesses alone.
