26 MARCH - PURPLE DAY: INTERNATIONAL EPILEPSY AWARENESS DAY

Purple Day aims to raise awareness of epilepsy, one of the most common neurological disorders in the world. According to official figures, more than 50 million people are currently living with epilepsy. So, 26 March is about understanding, supporting, and challenging the stigma surrounding this condition.

What should everyone know about epilepsy?

We have collected the most common stereotypes and myths about epilepsy in society and briefly explained them.

  • Epilepsy is not a mental disorder, as has been wrongly believed for many years, but a chronic brain disorder that manifests itself in the form of repeated seizures or other types of attacks.
  • Every case of epilepsy is different. Seizures can take a variety of forms, from brief 'lapses' in consciousness to active manifestations in the form of full-blown, severe seizures.
  • Epilepsy can be controlled. Many people diagnosed with epilepsy who adhere to treatment can lead full lives, study, work, and play sports.
  • First aid for a person having a seizure is very important. It is essential to know some simple rules about how to help a person in this situation effectively, without harming them, and never to panic.

The most important thing is not to turn away from people with epilepsy. They do not need pity but understanding, support, and equal opportunities.

The Charity Exchange "DobroDiy" supports every young patient, regardless of their diagnosis. In our wards, some children have epileptic activity along with other diseases.

We aim to help them receive the necessary rehabilitation, treatment, and professional support so that they can live full, healthy, and active lives.
